Golden Hands Award Winner - Cliff Fowler - 1998

At the recent orthopaedic symposium in Montreal, two great mentors were honoured. The inaugural presentation of the David Lamb Memorial Award was presented to Cliff Fowler for outstanding lifetime contributions to orthopaedic manipulative physiotherapy.

David Lamb was a tremendous inspiration and contributor to the Division and is dearly missed. David and Cliff were dear friends and colleagues, and as David's wife commented, it is so right that Cliff receive this award first.

Sooke sculpture Tony Gsellman was commissioned by the Orthopaedic Division to create the beautiful sculpture of hands entitled Healing Hands. Longtime friend Erl Pettman presented the award to Cliff. Erl told of David's outstanding work and also of Cliff's history and many contributions to our present post graduate system. Cliff has retired from his chief examiner position, but is still remaining in practice.

Upon presentation of the award there was a standing ovation when Cliff came forward. Cliff received the award and flowers were presented to Joan, his wife, for putting up with him. The Orthopaedic Division is honoured to present this award. We wish to thank Cliff for all of his contributions, and to keep the memory of David Lamb alive through this award. It is intended to be presented to outstanding lifetime contributions to orthopaedic physiotherapy. We hope to honour more individuals with this outstanding achievement award in the future.
