Thank you to all of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Divisions for your unique and interesting contributions to this issue of the Interdivisional Review
CURRENT ISSUE:
IDR 2011 Volume 1, No. 1
The Interdivisional Review (IDR) is an annual collection of research-informed articles representing the Divisions of the CPA. This initiative is currently under the leadership of the Division Research Representative Committee (DRRC). The IDR supports the DRRC's Terms of Reference which include the mandates "To share ideas to promote the development of physiotherapy research and evidence-based practice through inter-Divisional initiatives" and "collaborate on inter-Divisional communication strategies." The theme of each edition is chosen by the Division Chairs in consultation with the DRRC. DRRC members solicit articles from Division members for submission in the fall for the subsequent winter publication. The DRRC co- chairs provide editorial assistance.

The topic of this Interdivisional Review is Health Promotion. In this edition of the IDR, we use the term Health Promotion in its purest sense, to mean keeping Canadians well and free from harm or disease.

Twenty years ago ministries of health were solely responsible for executing provincial and territorial health policy. Today Alberta Health and Wellness, the Manitoba Department of Healthy Living, the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, the New Brunswick Department of Health and Wellness, and the B.C. Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport are examples of how we have shifted our focus to include the broad concept of societal wellness. We understand that treatment of disease and injury alone has only a narrow impact on overall population health.
